Free Legal Advice & Scottish Legal Aid
Patterson & Co are registered with the Scottish Legal Aid Board which allows our Lawyers to offer Legal Aid, no matter what your financial situation may be. Our Lawyers will deal with your application on your behalf and help you get quick access to robust legal representation. All you need to do is provide our office with relevant financial information, sign a form and we deal with the rest. Once Legal Aid is granted, we will be able to deal with your criminal matter throughout the entire proceedings.
Legal Aid is a vital component of Scotland’s justice system. The provision of Legal Aid ensures that all persons who are otherwise unable to afford legal representation obtain access to the best representation.
I am in employment, will I qualify?
If you require legal advice or you are being prosecuted within a court in Scotland, you may qualify for funding of our legal costs in their entirety under the Legal Aid scheme. Please do not assume that if you are working, you will not qualify for Legal Aid.
If you are in employment, you can still be eligible for funding, depending on the overall picture presented to the Legal Aid Board. The Legal Aid Board take in a number of other factors which could ensure you qualify for Legal Aid. Our Lawyers fully understand the Legal Aid system and will be able to advise you fully on whether you will qualify, given your financial circumstances. We will apply for Legal Aid on your behalf and will give you the best possible chance of having your case funded by Legal Aid.
If you are requiring legal representation at a police station interview, you will automatically qualify for Legal Aid, regardless of your financial situation and will not be required to pay anything.

If I do not qualify for legal aid – how much will it cost?
In the event you do not qualify for Legal Aid, we still guarantee everyone a free consultation to discuss your case in detail. We will meet with you, advise you fully in relation to your case and provide free legal advice.
Should you not be eligible for Legal Aid and wish to instruct us in relation to your case, will discuss and agree competitive rates in advance of starting your defence. The fee will be a fixed cost you are comfortable with and will cover our expert Legal representation for the entirety of your case.
