Directions By Rail

The train station is situated on Academy Street approximately a quarter of a mile from the court and about a five minute walk. Visit ScotRail or National Rail Enquiries for train times. By taxi The main taxi rank is at Academy Street, adjacent to the train station.

 

By Air

Inverness Airport is 10 miles east of Inverness. Travelling east along the A96 (Inverness to Aberdeen main route) the access road to the airport is well signposted. There are regular flights to a number of Scottish airports.

 

On Arrival

On arrival, please report at reception on ground floor in the main building. In the event that reception is unattended, please go to to the public offices on the first floor. You may be screened by hand held scanners and baggage checks may also be made. There is disabled access and parking at the front of the building for those with mobility issues and a blue badge holder only. A lift is available for use by people with restricted mobility and there are disabled toilet facilities; If you have any specific access requirements please contact the sheriff clerk’s office. There is no general public parking. The nearest public parking is at Rose Street.

Situated in the centre of Elgin at the corner of High Street and Glover Street. Please use the journey planner for public transportation information.
By bus
The bus station is a five minute walk from the courthouse.
By rail
The nearest rail station is approximately a ten minute walk. Visit ScotRail or National Rail Enquiries for train times.
By car
There is no public car parking at the court, the nearest multi-storey car park is at the St Giles Shopping Centre, a short walk along the High Street. There is also some limited on-street car parking in the streets behind the courthouse.
By taxi
There is a taxi rank on the High Street in front of "The Muckle Cross".
On arrival
On arrival, please report to the court officer at reception or to the sheriff clerk's office on the first floor.
You will be directed from there as to where you need to go in the building.
To enter the building you may be asked to pass through airport type screening and your bags or briefcases may be searched.
If you are attending for jury duty please come to the main reception where you will be directed to the courtroom.
Wheelchair users can access the building via the back door or the main entrance. If you have any specific access requirements please contact the sheriff clerk's office.

The court is about 5-10 minutes walk from Stornoway town centre. Please use the Journey Planner for public transportation information.
By bus
The bus station is at South Beach and is a 5-10 minutes walk from the Court. Bus timetables can be found at the website.
By car
There is a public car park at the court. There are limited parking spaces which are on a first come first served basis. Other parking is available at South Beach Quay (Free Parking) and Perceval Square.
By taxi
There is a taxi rank 10 minute walk from the court.
By air
The nearest airport is Stornoway Airport (3 miles) - 01851 707400. There are daily flights to Glasgow, Inverness, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. There is no bus service to the Airport.
